Fauna

Fauna is the animal life of your World. Like Flora you may want to create an Encyclopedia of animals for your world. Adding to your mapping projects create a map showing where the animals are commonly found. This can become a useful reference tool if you are a writing a story or for a roleplay game.

Fauna can be subdivided into the further categories which divide the non-sapien species usually by size and location. You can create your own subdivisions for your world, or you can use the following simplified subdivision:

  • Ocean Floor Fauna
  • Sea Fauna
  • Fresh Water Fauna
  • Winged Fauna
  • Forest Dwellng Fauna
  • Desert Dwelling Fauna
  • Scrub Dwelling Fauna
  • Mountain Dwelling Fauna
  • Plain Dwelling Fauna
  • Migrating Fauna
  • Microsopic Fauna
  • Domesticated Fauna
  • Magic Dwelling Fauna
  • Plane Dwelling Fauna (different planes of existence)
  • Space Dwelling Fauna

Some of your Fauna species may fit into more than one of the above categories.

Which Fauna to include?

Deciding which Fauna to include in your encyclopedia can be a difficult decision if you feel restricted by time. The great thing about you encyclopedia's is that you don't need to have all the information about your Fauna completed before you begin writing your book or creating your roleplay game. This is something that you can add too when ever you want to.

1. Add Fauna that provide a use to your civilisation for labour purposes. Are any animals used for:

  • hauling or pulling things?
  • riding on land, sea or air?
  • providing safety or security?
  • communication?

2. Add Fauna that threaten your civilisation:

  • are there any wild animials that your civilisation must protect themselves from?
  • are there any animals that can threaten your civilisation with poison or other reactions?

3. Add Fauna that provide sustenance/shelter to your civilisation:

  • are there any animals that provides nourishment by providing a by-product such as eggs or milk?
  • are there any animals provide nourishment by giving their life?
  • are there any animals that provide matieral for clothing or useful tools?

4. Add Fauna that are semi of fully domesticated:

  • are there any animals that are used for entertainment?
